Belkin strives to design and create affordable Smart Home switches. The company has added yet another product to its lineup, the WeMo Mini Wi-Fi Smart Plug. The plug is designed to prevent blockage of adjacent outlets, which is a problem for most brands.
The WeMo Mini is similar to Belkin’s other Smart Plugs except for its smaller design. It integrates with Amazon’s Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT and Nest, with no mention of support for Apple HomeKit. If you are looking for a plug that will track energy usage, you will need to pass up the WeMo Mini and go straight for the WeMo Insight Switch, which actually costs a few bucks extra.
The WeMo Mini will make a great addition to a home network that works with Google Home or Amazon Echo. Users can activate the plug with voice commands, switching the devices that are plugged in on and off from the app. The accompanied app also allows users to create schedules, so it will automatically switch the devices on and off per the preset times.
Belkin is doing very well keeping up with iDevices and iHome, which work with Apple HomeKit. The WeMo Mini, with its small design, will definitely put it on a competitive edge, along with the lower price tag. According to the company, there are no plans to add the Apple HomeKit chipset.
To sync the plug with the home network, users will only need to follow the app’s instructions. Syncing with Amazon Echo is a breeze, as well. After the plug is operating on the home network, just ask Alexa to discover new devices. Alexa is so intelligent that she will detect the plug within seconds and add it to her support list.
If you are yet to invest in a Smart plug, the Belkin WeMo Mini will be the great place to start. Just note, the app is a little laggy, but an update may just be the solution. To learn more, please click on the Amazon button provided below.
