Lenovo, a China-based tech giant, launches its innovative Smart Home assistant, with Amazon Alexa integration. Lenovo is the latest firm to join the market for voice-automated gadgets.
The Smart Assistant uses artificial intelligence (AI) that was developed by Amazon. It will easily recognize the user’s voice commands to perform web searches, create lists, transmit calendar reminders and play music. The virtual personal assistant will support both Lenovo and third-party connected devices.
“Our goal has never been to simply build Smart Home devices for the sake of advancing technology alone,” says Johnson Jia, Lenovo’s senior vice president for personal computers and Smart devices.
“In the same way a person’s IQ is measured by applied knowledge, we believe products are ‘Smart’ to the degree they’re actually understand and applied to daily life by users.” The Lenovo Smart Assistant is scheduled to go on sale in May 2017 and will be available in green, orange and light gray. An upgraded version, Lenovo Smart Assistant Harmon Kardon will also be available, with higher quality speakers.
The company unveiled a long list of Smart gadgets at the CES 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada, including the Lenovo Smart Storage (available in May 2017), Lenovo 500 Multimedia Controller (available in March 2017) and Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the first Tango-enabled smartphone.
