SYLVANIA Upgrades Smart Home App With Voice Automation Control

By   August 20, 2016

SYLVANIA is one of the most popular light bulb brands, dating back to the early 1900’s. Frank Poor joined in partnership with a company that purchased blown light bulbs from consumers for only a few cents. These bulbs were refurbished by snipping off the glass tip, replacing filaments, and then resealed. The refurbished light bulb was eventually released back on the market. Poor remained employed with the company, but decided to move it from Middleton, Massachusetts to Danvers. He later bought out his partner, renamed the company Bay State Lamp Company, and encouraged his brother to join him. The company was eventually sold and formed into the SYLVANIA Products Company.

Today, the company is known as LEDVANCE, but it continues to provide SYLVANIA and OSRAM brand products to North American consumers. LEDVANCE strives to keep up with modern technology and that is exactly what they did, when they joined the Smart Home industry. The SYLVANIA LIGHTIFY Smart bulb was released on the market in 2015 and the OSRAM Smart Home hub soon followed. The hub is embedded with a ZigBee chip to create a communication gateway from the existing Internet router to the SYLVANIA LIGHTIFY LED and other third-party Smart devices.

Enhancing further into the Smart Home industry, LEDVANCE decided to partner with Amazon and integrate Alexa into the OSRAM Smart gateway. This news could not come at a better time, because more than 3 million consumers have already invested in the Amazon Echo and many more have invested in SYLVANIA and OSRAM Smart products. Users will now be able to control their SYLVANIA Smart LEDs with voice activation. This technological upgrade will definitely enhance the LEDVANCE Home Automation platform, giving users more to look forward to.
