For consumers that are looking for a new Smart doorbell, with a unique and modern design, the August Doorbell Cam may be the right fit. This doorbell has a square design (2.9” X 2.9”) that looks nothing like any other brand on the market. It features motion sensor alerts, 140-degree one-way camera, live stream video resolution, two-way talk and remote access.
The August Doorbell Cam’s smartness is far better than most Smart doorbells on the market, but it isn’t perfect. The square design doesn’t fit every doorframe and the existing Wi-Fi router must be positioned within 10 to 15 feet of the front door for the lock to work properly. A separate Wi-Fi extender will be required for home networks, with a weak signal or a router that is located over 15 feet away from the front door.
An August Video Recording subscription will be required for storing event videos in cloud. The monthly plan costs $4.99 and the annual plan costs $49.99, with a $10 saving. Consumers can test the service for 30 days without any obligations. The service offers 30 days of event storage, with the ability to access the video recordings 24/7 for up to 30 days.
The doorbell performs very well and the August Smart Lock makes it even more appealing. The doorbell is slightly larger than the average doorbell that measures roughly an inch wide and 3 inches in length. The fact that the doorbell requires a hardwired installation, there are limitations with the install locations.
August is not the only Smart doorbell manufacturer to choose a larger design, because SkyBell did the same thing, but chose a circular design. Before investing in the August doorbell, be sure to measure the allotted space, because its larger size could make it an improper fit.
The installation process is simple, but the plastic wire connectors may need to be snipped to make the right connection. When removing the connectors, be sure to wrap the wires with electrical tape, before moving to the next step. Once the installation process is complete, it will be time to start the configuration process. This step just required downloading the companion August app and then the app will guide you through the set up process.
The app is extremely easy to navigate and users can even choose a house and name it. The app supports multiple authorized phones, so when a visitor rings the doorbell, an instant push notification will be transmitted to all the connected phones. Time schedules can be created to limit the access or permit 24/7 access to the doorbell.
With the camera, users will be able to see the individual behind the door, but the visitor cannot see them. Communicating to the visitor is as easy as accessing the app and one-way HD video live feed. The two-way audio also allows homeowners to communicate with the visitor, without needing to unlock the door. The live feed can be accessed from anywhere, as well as instant alerts.
When considering investing in the August Doorbell Cam, be sure to take the time to measure the allotted space. August has updated the app several times to improve the 1,280×960 resolution, which at one time had a minimal lag. Once the doorbell is installed, it will definitely draw attention and enhance the security around your home.
